UnitedXR Europe, jointly produced by AWE and Stereopsia, is committed to sustainable practices across the event, and we invite the XR community to join us in making a difference.

How Is UnitedXR Making a Difference?

• Calculating and offsetting carbon emissions generated by UnitedXR Europe
• Managing conscious garbage disposal and waste treatment on-site
• Running selective waste collection for paper, combustible waste, glass, and tins
• Providing dedicated containers for exhibition-related waste to maximize recycling
• Collecting delegate badges and lanyards at the end of the event for recycling. We have a no-reprint policy for event badges, which helps limit unnecessary paper and material waste.
• Sourcing hand towels and toilet paper from recycled materials

Event Design

• Prioritizing a walkable event footprint within and around Maison de la Poste to cut down on car and bus travel
• Leaning on digital signage and the event app for scheduling and navigation instead of printed programs
• Using recyclable cloth banners rather than vinyl for major set pieces
• Printing signboards on honeycomb paper rather than corrugated plastics
• Distributing biodegradable, 100% recyclable name badges with lanyard recycling points on-site

Vendors & Suppliers

• Partnering with local, sustainable vendors for printing and signage to cut production waste and shipping distance
• Requesting reusable or compostable service items from our catering partners

Venue

• Housed in Maison de la Poste, a restored 1904 industrial heritage building in the Tour & Taxis district, renovated in 2019 with eco-responsibility built into the design
• Green Key–certified for environmental standards
• Uses durable, reusable tableware instead of single-use plastics
• Works exclusively with caterers who've signed a sustainability agreement covering locally-sourced organic food and fair labor practices
• Redistributing surplus food through a partnership with ALPACA Solutions , a non-profit organization giving uneaten food a second life through charitable organizations, while organic waste is transformed into natural fertilizer.
• Turning coffee grounds into a resource through local partners, including the PermaFunghi cooperative, which uses spent coffee grounds to grow oyster mushrooms.
• Serves filtered tap water in glass bottles venue-wide, eliminating single-use plastic bottles
• Part of the wider Tour & Taxis urban regeneration project, which repurposes historic industrial infrastructure into sustainable public and commercial space

Participant Awareness

• Sending participants pre-event information on sustainable travel
• Encouraging everyone to consider their environmental impact when travelling to the event
• Including mandatory sustainability questions in the registration process to better understand participants’ travel-related carbon impact and identify opportunities to improve our sustainability practices
• Raising awareness around food waste and responsible consumption
• Encouraging exhibitors, partners and suppliers to adopt more sustainable practices

Content Accessibility

UnitedXR Europe is committed to making our content accessible to the wider XR community. All conference sessions are recorded and made available for free after the event on our YouTube channel — subscribe so you don't miss a new video.

Engaging the Community

While UnitedXR Europe offsets the majority of the event's carbon footprint, every member of our community can go further by calculating and offsetting their own personal footprint.

We also work with our sponsors, exhibitors, and partners to reduce single-use items, cut print waste, encourage sustainable merchandise, and promote digital lead generation across the show floor.

We invite everyone attending UnitedXR Europe to:

• Use the event app and website instead of printing materials
• Offset the emissions from your personal travel and hotel stay. Use online carbon calculators to estimate your footprint and consider purchasing carbon offsets for flights, car journeys, hotel stays, and other travel.
• Reduce personal waste and follow on-site separation guidelines
• Skip the bottled water — Maison de la Poste serves filtered tap water in glass bottles throughout the venue, cutting down on single-use plastic
